2 Syrians Held in Jbeil on Suspicion of Terrorism

Two Syrians were arrested on Monday evening in the city of Jbeil on suspicion of belonging to "terrorist groups."

“Members of the Jbeil police station arrested the Syrians Abbas Jasem al-Fadel, 27, and Abdullah Ahmed al-Hussein, 32, on suspicion of their belonging to terrorist groups,” state-run National News Agency reported.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on Monday accused some political forces of seeking to “impose a president” on the country, stressing that he “will not join those who have been usurping power” since 2005.

"Our resistance confirmed our right to Lebanon's existence, and this is what happened on March 14, 2005, but unfortunately, parties that never ruled according to these values rose to power, and they moved from one hegemony to another," Aoun said in a speech marking the 24th anniversary of his ouster from the Baabda Palace following a Syrian-led offensive.

The spokesman of the Qaida-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades on Monday urged Islamist militants in the northern city of Tripoli against “falling into the trap” of fighting the Lebanese army, asking them to instead focus their efforts on confronting Hizbullah.

“The entire army is a malleable tool in the hand of the party (Hizbullah), with which the Sunnis are being killed and arrested,” AAB spokesman Sirajeddine Zureiqat, who is a fugitive Lebanese cleric, said on Twitter.
